{What's in a hat}

when my grandma sat down and taught me how to crochet i knew that the first thing i wanted to learn how to make was a beanie. i didn't think it would be difficult. i figured that once you knew the basic stitches the rest would be easy, or so i thought. in all honesty it is pretty  easy to make a simple beanie, if you know how to work in rounds, count stitches and decrease and increase stitches and all that fun stuff.  of course i am a beginner and none of those words really meant anything too me. yes, i know how to start a chain, i know how to single stitch and i know how to double stitch...that's about it. but i was determined. after learning the basics from my grandma i decided to teach myself the rest...and so i did!  i practiced and practiced and restitched and restitched many hats and then....i finally figured it out! i made my first beanie, it's actually for my daughter not for myself, but i take great pride in that first beanie! and it's the first of many,many, many beanies and hats.  from learning how to make that one simple beanie, a world of adorable beanies and hats opened up right before my crochet hook!

I quickly learned that you could turn any plain beanie
into something adorable!

This time I added a flower clip.

{Why all the crocheting...}

i can remember back when i was younger spending a lot of time with my dear sweet grandma. she was and still is a very special and very important person that the lord has given to me. in that time growing up i can remember doing all sorts of things with her. spaghetti dinners every tuesday, garage sales anytime, doll shopping all the time, ceramic painting some of the time, playing yahtzee a must, but when it came to my grandma's hobby of crocheting, I was NOT interested. funny now, considering that i can't seem to get the crochet hook out of my hands. my grandma came out for a visit not so long ago and while spending some time with her she taught me how to crochet. this time i was interested. she just taught me the basics, but that's all i needed, and now, well the rest is history. thanks grandma for the lessons, i love you.
