{My new favorite place}

i found a new favorite place. well, it's actually not new and i've liked this place for a while but now it's my new favorite place for finding great crochet patterns!! etsy.com has some of the cutest patterns out there and now that i know how to crochet i also taught myself how to read a pattern. there are so many possibilities out there!!  i recently got my hands on some patterns for the most adorable hats and i had so much fun making them! check them out below. the name of the store where i purchased the patterns are below so that i can give credit where credit is due!

{Flowers are in the Air}

it seems like every where you look, flowers are being used to spruce up anything. as i was thinking of more ways to add some flare to my hats and make some cute hair bows for my daughter, i thought to myself, how hard can it be to make a fabric flower? turns out, it's not hard at all. you just need a little patience! i had some fabric laying around so i thought i would make an attempt to put together a flower. i am happy to say that they turned out pretty cute and can be used for all sorts of things including dressing up a hat, making into a fashion pin and ,of course, hair bows!

Adorable, wouldn't you say!

{hats, hats and more hats}

ever since i made that first hat, i've been wanting to make more. so i did! i wanted to post some simple beanies that i made. most are done in single stitch, some are done in double stitch and some are done in both. they are so simple to make, now that i have the hang of it, and i think they are so cute. during my learning escapade i figured out how to make different sizes as well. below are some pictures of some boy beanies that i made.

by far, my favorite hat to make is for a sweet little girl! there are so many different things you can do with a hat to make it girlie and cute! the hat below i have made in some many different colors and have used ribbon and flower hair clips to add a touch of flare! i learned how to make this hat thru trial and error as well, however, i learned the special stitch by watching a tutorial on-line. there are so many things you can learn on-line!

i made this hat for a girlfriend of mine who
recently had a baby girl...adorable!

{What's in a hat}

when my grandma sat down and taught me how to crochet i knew that the first thing i wanted to learn how to make was a beanie. i didn't think it would be difficult. i figured that once you knew the basic stitches the rest would be easy, or so i thought. in all honesty it is pretty  easy to make a simple beanie, if you know how to work in rounds, count stitches and decrease and increase stitches and all that fun stuff.  of course i am a beginner and none of those words really meant anything too me. yes, i know how to start a chain, i know how to single stitch and i know how to double stitch...that's about it. but i was determined. after learning the basics from my grandma i decided to teach myself the rest...and so i did!  i practiced and practiced and restitched and restitched many hats and then....i finally figured it out! i made my first beanie, it's actually for my daughter not for myself, but i take great pride in that first beanie! and it's the first of many,many, many beanies and hats.  from learning how to make that one simple beanie, a world of adorable beanies and hats opened up right before my crochet hook!

I quickly learned that you could turn any plain beanie
into something adorable!

This time I added a flower clip.

{Why all the crocheting...}

i can remember back when i was younger spending a lot of time with my dear sweet grandma. she was and still is a very special and very important person that the lord has given to me. in that time growing up i can remember doing all sorts of things with her. spaghetti dinners every tuesday, garage sales anytime, doll shopping all the time, ceramic painting some of the time, playing yahtzee a must, but when it came to my grandma's hobby of crocheting, I was NOT interested. funny now, considering that i can't seem to get the crochet hook out of my hands. my grandma came out for a visit not so long ago and while spending some time with her she taught me how to crochet. this time i was interested. she just taught me the basics, but that's all i needed, and now, well the rest is history. thanks grandma for the lessons, i love you.
